  Communications and Where its Going

Long time ago there were horse messengers, then there were telegrams, telephones, and then mobile phones. Waves from a mobile phone are potent enough to make popcorn and we put these things right next to our ears. What is the future of the human race? In any case, now there is texting, blogging, facebook, twitter, myspace, and websites need to be compatible for i-phones. Imagine that you are in the web business and suddenly you find out that your web traffic has escalated from 1% mobile phone users to 7% overnight. What a shock. So, you have to redesign your pages for those users just as fast too, or you lose market share. We are living in different times..

Additionally, kids today don't go home to make phone calls or answer emails anymore, they go straight to Facebook, well, at least some kids I know.

The irony is, that with all of our myriad of communication choices, the type of messages we send each other are typically of the lowest common denominator, and generally in broken English. "C U later?" I may not be the most erudite scholar, but I draw the line when native speakers bastardize my mother tongue. I have seen what people tweet about. So, far there has been nothing intelligent that I have read. Fill me in please if you find something.

In any case, all of these technological changes are good for BPO companies, because they can offer the new service of offering mobile phone pages, and social media services. I have yet to find an outsourcing firm that is good at social media, but over time, that will work itsself out.

I had a dream, that there was even technology for cats. The new meao-phone and meao-pad had an application for a social media site called meao-space, and even a virtual bird watching application. That will become the meao of the town in no time. But, until technology can transmit something to sniff or chase, the cats will not be interested for long.

Another interesting thought is what call centers will do to adapt to these crazy times we are living in. Will call centers start using facebook to do client interfacing, or has that already started?

And what about the future? It is very hard to imagine how we will be communicating in ten years. There is no doubt that some new fad or application will come into popularity and take over. Maybe we will have a choice between four new networks with some weird communication medium that makes no sense from our current state of minds. By 2030, I'm convinced we will use astral-projection and mental telepathy to communicate (t-mail). But, in the mean time, even god probably doesn't even know.
